TEST NAME RESULT NORMAL RANGE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TOXOPLASMA GANDII EU/ml LESS THAN 90 NEGATIVE IgM ANTIBODY MORE THAN 110 POSITIVE 90 - 110 EQUIVOCCAL INTERPRETATION :- Toxoplasma gandii is a ubiquitous protozoa which causes infection in all mammalian species. In man, serological studies have shown that a high percentage of the adult population has been infected by this parasite. The disease is particularly dangerous in immunodepressed patients during pregnancy, as it is transmitted from mother to fetus. For this reason it is important to determine the antibody titer before the beginning of pregnancy if possible; those subjects who do not present immunity should be followed up with frequent analysis to check for serum conversion. The results should be used in conjunction with information available from the clinical evaluation and other diagnostic procedures. Samples giving a repeatedly negative result close to the cut - off value, may be seen in patients in an early or late stage of the disease. In such cases a confirmation of the result recommended by testing a new sample drawn from the same patient at 7 - 10 days interval from the first sample. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
