PSA is a reliable and specific Tumour Marker for already diagnosed Prostatic Carcinomas, Baseline levels measured prior to therapeutic/surgical intervention, and followed later by serial, periodical measurements will predict the outcome of the therapy.

PSA is elevated in benign prostrate hypertrophy (BPH). Clinically anelevated PSA value alone is not of diagnostic value as a specific test for cancer and should only be used in conjunction with other clinical manifestations (obsercvations)and diagnostic procedures (Prostate biopsy).
